Many are not preaching the gospel of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is another gospel. Those of us who were reared on the Bible, on evangelical truths, on Pentecostal bases and who have read hundreds of pieces of evangelical, theological, Mainline church and Pentecostal literature over the years know it is not the gospel that is wending its way into the hearts of millions.It is a mixture.

There is some gospel truth, albeit a little, encased in human myths, psychology, humanism and gnosticism. It  goes back to the Mind Sciences, New Thought of the eighteen hundreds. It is now New Age. It could make one weep. One thinks of the poor sheep out there. We have to consider that Paul said, “If anyone, even an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel than what I preach, let him be accursed” in Galatians 1. The Galatians were bewitched, he said, ch.3:1-3. In other words they were following teachings of demons. He warns every one of us against this in 2 Tim.4:1 – ” Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will renounce the faith by paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons”. Here we have it on a world-wide scale. 2 Tim.4:3,4 “For the time is coming when people will not put up with sound doctrine, but having itching or lusting ears, they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own desires or lusts and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander away to myths”. Truth is mentioned 54 times in the New Testament. Jesus is the Truth. By His Spirit writing through the apostles, we have the Truth written for us. He said His words are Spirit and life. So the Truth in the New Testament in word form, is His Spirit speaking to us if we listen. If we listen to what is not truth, we are on dangerous ground. Even Peter gives this warning – But false prophets also arose among the poeople, just as there will be false teahers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive, damnable opinions. They will even deny the Master who bought them – bringing swift destruction on themselves.  because of these teachers the way of truth will be maligned. And in their greed they will exploit you with deceptive words: 2 Tim.2:1-3. Is there not a multitude of preachers and certainly those on T.V., who are making merchandise “in their greed” the Bible says (not I). They want much money, much fame, much growth, large enterprises, success, wealth, health and there has to be a large kingdom. Is it power? Once all preachers were warned against three follies – women, wealth and power. Good words they were in those olden days! We all, myself included, must take note. We end with Paul’s warning to Timothy – “You must understand this, that in the last days distressing times will come. For people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, inhuman, implacable, … lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God”  2 Timothy 3:1-8. What terrible words. Paul likens them to “Jaannes and Jambres who opposed Moses, so these people, of corrupt mind and counterfeit faith, also oppose the truth”. It is evident that despite the Positivity message proclaimed so positively and the Motivational Speaker influencing the faith of Christians, that the Bible is not total Positivity or total Success. In fact, there is no positivity there. It is faith and on the other hand dire warnings to those not in the faith, including one time believers of Truth. We have been led astray. We have listened, not wanting to think preachers in pulpits could be wrong. That is not the case. May some who read this understand what is happening in the church and show their brethren in Christ, families and friends the Truth as it is in Christ Jesus.

The truth as it is in Christ Jesus is that preached as indicated in 1 Corinthians 15:1-6. It is the gospel of Christ that is the truth. That gospel is a spiritual matter. It is the fact that Christ died for our sins, that He was buried and rose again. John in his epistles uses the word ‘truth’ many times. We are to love the truth. To love it we must know it. To know it we must read it and even memorize much of it. It is contained in the New Testament and particularly in the Episltes Jesus began to preach it in the Gospels.
