In almost every church and meeting, there is singing and music. Why is this, apart from the human love of expressing the emotions in song and with musical instruments?
The churches teach that Satan was choirmaster in heaven before he fell. There is nothing in Scripture to support this. They use Isaiah 14 that is not about Satan but about a tyrant, King Merodach-Baladin, of Babylon and about the Babylonian love of music. It refers to Lucifer Ecos, son of Helios Klymene, their god. Verse 16 calls him “a man” – not Satan, verse 20 “you will not be united with them in burial”. The whole poem could be said to relate to Adam and not Satan. Adam was a man, not Satan.
In fact, angels were created on the first day, just before the creation of our earth, according to Job 38:7 and singing at the dawn of creation. So where was Satan in that body of angels? In fact, Jesus said, in John 8:44 “He was a murderer from the beginning”.
It was the Roman Catholic Jerome and Tertullian, early in the third century, thought that verses 15-17 of Isaiah 14 meant Satan. Luther and Calvin rejected this. Unfortunately today, the majority of churches follow the Roman Catholic ideas.
Ezekiel 28 is another chapter they use to say it meant Satan, the founder of music. The word of the Lord was a prophecy against one of the kings of Tyre, who said, “I am a god (el)”. God said, “Yet you are a man and not God, Although you make your heart like the heart of God”.
We have been taught grave error.
An interesting thing is that music was first brought into the world by a descendant of Cain and not a descendant of the Messianic line through Seth. It was introduced by the son of a violent man, a murderer, Lamech, Genesis 4:19-24. One of the wives of this man, Adah, gave birth to Jubal, “he was the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe.” Therefore, music came into the world through the evil line even though God is the creator of man with his skills and brilliance. Satan was never a leader of musicians in heaven. However, he certainly influenced the importance and flow of music from its inception.
James Ryle, of Vineyard preached that he had three dreams, in which God told him He had anointed the Beatles. Also that they would disband and their anointing would go to Christian bands. This is blasphemy.
His article was “The Sons of Thunder – a Prophetic dream”. He said, “After I had written the dream down, the Lord spoke to me and said, ‘I’m about to release a new kind of song in the streets. It will bring a revelation of the truth and it will usher men into my presence.’
“In the second dream, I was taken to a large church which had a stage … When I awoke, the Lord said that there was going to be a new and distinctive anointing and sound restored to music that will turn and capture the hearts of men for Jesus Christ. He said that we would see this happen when the church gets beyond the limits that she set for herself, into his grace (John Bevere often mentions “grace” in a wrong sense), and takes the praise that is in the sanctuary and makes it music in the streets. … We must overcome our insecurities to sing the Lord’s song if our light is going to shine in this world: Simply singing the truth in the name of Jesus Christ ‘we say unto you be saved’ will release the power of His Spirit in such an awesome display that men and women will collapse in their seats converted to Christ. But the Lord said that a key will be this new anointing he is about to give to his music”. “His (God’s) music”? What Satanic delusions!
Of course this music is based upon the rhythm and beat of Rock-&-Roll to cause people to collapse in their seats and be converted to Christ.
After years of conditioning and progressing from one level of Rock to the next, it is now being taught that the manifestation of the Holy Spirit comes about through extended times of praise and worship accompanied by loud, up-tempo, rock music. The manifestation of the Spirit comes as we do what Jesus said in John 7:38,39 “If any man thirst, let him come unto Me and drink and out of his innermost being will flow rivers of living water. This spake He of the Holy Spirit. This applies not only to receiving the baptism with the Holy Spirit but also to the manifestation of the gifts of the Spirit, their presence in a meeting being according to faith, yielding to the Spirit and the leader’s faith and encouragement, with his desire and allowance for such gifts to operate. For example, in Romans 12:6, “If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it ins proportion to his faith”. This, of course, includes women in the English language.
I have seen and experienced manifestations of the Holy Spirit in churches from childhood. I with my first husband operated in hundreds of churches in several gifts and manifestations of the Holy Spirit. Not once did we use music. In fact, when I led people into Holy Spirit worship, it stopped the music as it is always a hindrance. Music is natural. Worship and the gifts of the Spirit with His manifestations are supernatural. Rock music in the churches I have visited has almost stopped the manifestations of the Spirit. They are not there. When will leaders wake up? I glance around the congregations and there is always, in every church, a large segment, that barely sings any of the songs.
It is said this music and praise and worship brings us into the presence of God. That is not true. The way into the presence of God is by faith and an attitude of heart prayer through the Lord Jesus Christ. We see this from Hebrews 4:4:14-16 “Therefore, since we have a great high price who has gone through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need”.
Also, Hebrews 9:12, “He (Christ) did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves, but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood”. Notice “once for all”. The entrance for us in prayer and worship was done by Christ, “once for all”. Again Hebrews 10:19-22, “Since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place (in heaven, in prayer, in worship) by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience”. There is no mention of music.
At the time the Psalms were written, the people went to the Tabernacle on earth, offering sacrifices for their sins, following the Feasts of Israel, with music, singing and dancing, under the Old Mosaic Covenant. This was earthly, carnal worship, as Hebrews 9:1 and 10:1 declare. We are now under the New Covenant supposedly with Spiritual worship, entering by faith into the heavenly Jerusalem, Hebrews 12:22-24, going to the Mount Zion above to God and to Jesus the mediator of a New Covenant and to the sprinkled blood of Christ in heaven and on our hearts. Our worship should not follow the worship of the Old. Sadly, it does.
The word has been seized by corrupt men and women, e.g. Brian Houston and has been twisted and reinterpreted to mean any number of ungodly things. It is taught, as Paul said, “I have become all things to all men”. The idea is to make church like the world, with the world’s music, lusts and desires. They have taken this verse they use, out of context. On looking at 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 one sees Paul is speaking about Jewish laws for the Jews and appearing as not a Jew to the Gentiles, enemies of the cross of Christ.
Rick Joyner, a major false prophet in his book, “The Harvest – Volume 2”, which promotes mysticism and outright heresy says, “Anointed music will be one of the church’s biggest guns in the battle of the last days …The Lord is about to anoint prophetic minstrels who will capture the world’s attention.” This prophecy also is false in that it is not God who will be doing it. It is not stated in the New Testament that God wants to “capture the world’s attention, through the church” so that the church will have an appeal. Lovers of the world are enemies of God, “If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world – the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does – comes not from the Father but from the world”, ”, 1 John 2:15,16; and “You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is enmity against God”, James 4:4.
The strange thing is that in Romans 12:4-8 and in 1 Corinthians 12 there is no mention of any ministry called “music” or “singers”! The Spirit of Christ is the Author of those portions.
The only Scriptural way for sinners to be truly born again and to truly find Christ as their only Saviour and Lord, is through the preaching of the gospel. “The gospel, (not music), is the power of God unto salvation to every one who believes”, Romans 1:16. Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles and writer of most of the books of the New Testament said he preached only Christ and Him crucified. 1 Corinthians 1:23 “but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to … and foolishness to ..”. Also, he said in 2 Corinthians 2;2-4 “For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words (not music), but with demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on men’s (song writers’) wisdom but on God’s power”. How far from the truth have preachers gone?
1 Corinthians 1:25 “For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom (in using their talents to compose music and song and in the performance of same) and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength”. “’It is not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit’, says the Lord”.
While watching a B.B.C. programme in India on 17th March 2001, I heard the following, which I wrote down:
In the 1960s “Rock music acted out the fantasies and insecurities of themselves and their audiences”. This would have been – the words and the music itself, which is from and for the soul (the carnal nature).
It was “To move people emotionally and spiritually”. As this rock singer said, “Can I activate the madness of crowds?” I think this was Morrison who was later found dead. There was exposure of the body. The rock singer on the B.B.C. said he took over Morrison’s mantle. He would challenge audiences in a similar way, walking round on drugs, on stage. He would do what he had seen Indians do (demonically motivated). He would take a show to the crowds. Went for “girls” in the audiences.
Whether it is believed by the churches or not, it still remains that the rock music itself, its beat and whole performance, excites crowds in churches towards emotionalism and an emptiness of mind that accepts anything that comes from the pulpit.

Music and musical instruments are an extremely important part of human history. The use of rhythm and song has long been used to express meaning, and feeling and accompany rituals.
Music has been
part of human life for as long as anyone can trace. Early civilizations of
humans used music as a way to communicate and express feelings. Out of all of
the musical instruments that we see in our society today and use on a regular
basis, there is one instrument that stands out in musical history, the drum.
The history of drums is interesting and unique. When you examine this instrument historically, you will find that drums have had a place in almost all cultures around the globe. Variations of drums and drum sets occurred in many different cultures, the standard variety of a drum consisted simply of a hollowed out log or gourd with a piece of skin stretched taunt. Different sizes of gourds and logs created different sounds and beats.
The African Influence
In most African cultures, drums were very important in the use of rituals and religious ceremonies. The people of different African tribes relied on the use of drums to express themselves and when the slave trade began, the drums made the journey across the ocean as well.
African drums and drummers provided a unique sound that heavily influenced Western Rock and Roll music. Those same rhythms and beats still provide a strong influence in today’s sounds.
The Early Drum Set
When it was discovered that one player could play two or more drums at the same time, people started placing groups of drums together for one musician to play. These groups were comprised of an assimilation of drums of different cultures and from all around the globe. Cymbals and tom tom drums were brought in from China and the size was adjusted to allow for ease of play when played with drumsticks.
In the early 1930’s, musicians slowly discovered with the proper drum placement and a lot of practice, one musician could handle a set of drums, and an entire band of drum players was not required anymore. Thus, a basic kit evolved and took place.

1) A bass and foot pedal
2) A snare drum
3) Tom Toms
4) A hi hat cymbal
5) One or two sets of hanging cymbals
The Evolution Of The Drum Set
In the 1930’s the drum set was heavily influenced by the sounds of the time, and the early forms of Rock and Roll music. The sounds had a strong basic beat backing them.
In the 1950’s as Rock and Roll music began to develop, the sounds became more complex and likewise, the drum sets became more evolved, with new additions added to them. Rockers began expanding the drum kits adding more cymbals and tom toms drums to them. In addition, as time went on, electronic drums were added to the drum kits as well. All of these additions allowed the musicians to expand their sounds and diversify their music.
Types Of Drum Kits
In the past, as drums evolved and drum kits developed, new companies were formed and products were fine-tuned and made better. The Ludwig Drum Company is known as one of the most influential and historical drum companies of our time.
The Ludwig drum company was started by a young man who enjoyed playing the drums. He could not find a bass pedal that would hold up to his intense drumming style. He shopped around everywhere and could not find an appropriate pedal, so he fashioned one out of wood. The pedal was superior to anything else on the market. His brother, felt that an even stronger pedal could be created out of a metal product, so they teamed up to create an even better bass pedal. Thus, the Ludwig Drum Company was born.
Ringo Starr, the famous drummer for The Beatles used a Ludwig drum set and was known for preferring the Ludwig drums. He is said to still own the original Ludwig drum set that he played with the Beatles.
There have been many other types of drum kits and company names that have played an important and influential role in the history of drums. Yamaha, Pearl, Tama and Gretsch are all famous brand names whose drums and drum kits have helped form the drum set, as we know it today.
The Future For Drums
What does the future hold for drum sets? No one can be sure. However, with the creation of more and more technology, we can be sure that the sounds will evolve even more. A combination of new sounds and traditional will always be found. And the limit for drum set creation will simply be the imagination of the musicians.

Man has been beating on drums from as far back as history records (books will tell you around 6000 BC). Among numerous other artefacts found through the years, hollowed out logs were excavated that were believed to be communication devices in primitive times. Drums would later take a more prominent role in tribal ceremonial gatherings where they accompanied ritual dancing and celebration.

Drums were used throughout numerous wars including the infamous civil war. The fife and drummers marched proudly as their side fought for victory.

The concept of drums are as old as mankind. A drum is called a membranophone, or an instrument that creates sound by striking a stretched membrane with some type of object, usually a rounded stick. Drums consist of a hollowed-out piece (called the body), a membrane stretched over the end of the drum, and tuning keys or pegs which tighten or loosen the membrane to achieve different tones. While most may think that the body of the drum produces the sound, it is in fact actually the membrane and its vibration that creates the sound when struck.
Drums first appeared as far back as 6000 BC. Mesopotamian excavations unearthed small cylindrical drums dated 3000 BC. Several wall markings found in caves in Peru show drums used in various aspects of societal life. The American Indians used gourd and wooden constructed drums for their rituals and ceremonies. Drums have always been used for more than merely creating music. Civil uses, messaging, and religious uses are but a few.
Origins of the Drum Kit
Drum kits, a grouping of various toned drums, originated in marching bands and parade bands in New Orleans. It was found that one drummer could play more than one drum simultaneously. This is known as double drumming. Cymbals and Tom Toms, which were invented in China, were added to drum kits. Percussion additives such as cowbells, wooden blocks, and chimes were incorporated as well. By the 1930’s the standard drum kit had taken shape. The Kit consisted of a bass drum and foot pedal, snare, tom toms, hi-hat cymbal, and large hanging cymbals.
In the 1960’s rock drummers began the expansion of drum kits that are the norm today. More toms and cymbals, as well as the addition of another bass drum to increase speed were added. Electronic drums were also developed to create sounds that traditional drums were unable to produce. These brought about the synthesized drum sounds used in many modern styles of music.
What new creations will be incorporated into future drum kits is anyone’s guess. They will only be limited by the imaginations and creativity of musicians and manufacturers. The future of drumming should be an interesting one then.

It is interesting to note that music played a prominence in the worship of God with the sacrifices of animals in the Tabernacle of David, for which most of the Psalms were written. This Tabernacle was built on Mt. Zion in the Jewish natural city of Jerusalem.
However, Jesus made a major change when He said to the woman of Samaria, John 4:21, 23, 24, “ An hour is coming when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, shall you worship the Father.” “An hour is coming and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in Spirit and truth, for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and truth.”
On searching the Internet for old records of the early Church, to my amazement I discovered that they did not use musical instruments according to that writer. Instead, along with their teaching of the Message of Christ and of the Gospel, in every meeting, they prayed aloud in other tongues together. They also worshipped in other tongues. That is worship in the Spirit. The truth has its relationship to the worshipers abiding in the truth, believing only the truth and walking in the truth – which is not done generally today.
