Jesus in Matt.10 sends his twelve disciples out to preach to the Israelites. They were not to go to the Samaritans. They were to proclaim that the kingdom of heaven was near. This was the gospel Jesus Himself had begun to preach. They were His sheep going among the wolves in Israel. They faced the danger of being beaten in before the councils of the Sanhedrin in Jerusalem and be scourged in their synagogues. In v.21 He said: ‘You will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes. This was to specifically His twelve disciples. They had not been through all of the cities of Israel when most of them were martyred. The coming of the Son of Man would be in their generation and not the end of the world and this can be the only understanding of His words. His coming as the son of Man was for the period of the Great Tribulation Daniel 12 had told and also its great troubles as Jesus prophesied in Matt.24, Lk.21, Mk13. In Lk.21:12 He said: ‘jBefore all these things, they will lay their hand on you, persecute you, delivering you up to synagogues and prions’. Then He said in vss.12-17 just what He said to them in Mt.10, as we compare the 2 passages. V.22 ‘The days of vengeance that all thing written may be fulfilled’. Then and not the end-time of the world as many believe. v.24, ‘trodden down of the Gentiles’ Vespasian who came against Jerusalem A.D.66 on, so subjugated Judea that the very land was sold by him, Jews killed or led into captivity A.D.70, through Titus his son..At that time, Jesus said, v.27 ‘Then they hall see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory’. v.32 to them there He said, “Truly I tell you, this generation will not pas away until all things are accomplished’. Not an end-time prophecy at all. What deal is about to happen. It happened and will not happen again. Let us believe what Jesus said.
