Today is Pentecost Sunday. As William Booth of the Salvation Army said in his well known hymn, “Send The Fire” – we need another Pentecost.. To have that happen the church needs to repent of her follies and heresies. Jesus called on the churches in the Book of Revelation. To have another Pentecost, means we get filled with the Holy Ghost as they were on the Day of Pentecost. They received the power which was speaking in other tongues. The fire of God on display became the judgement of God on the nation of Israel, the Temple and Jerusalem. All was destroyed in AD 66-73 according to the vision of Daniel 9:24-27. To receive what they had at Pentecost we need to be filled with the Holy Ghost speaking in other tongues and to preach the Word of the Gospel of Christ as they did throughout the whole book of Acts.
In view of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah and the reference Jude makes to them in relation to false teachers, I feel to make this public – even if only a few will read it. Hopefully, it will be my children, friends and interested brethren in the Lord Jesus. One has to say unequivocally, that Joseph Prince, who reaches hundreds of millions of believers and others weekly, has a habit that greatly disregards the truths of the gospel.
Before we go further with the sermon dealt with in the last three articles, we should set out what the Bible says about the mind. Prince has followed New Thought, Mind Sciences and New Age ideas. The Bible says something different and wonderful about the minds of true believers. We quote:”For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” MKJV (2 Tim.1:7). This is something God has given to us, particularly to those believers who keep on being filled with the Holy Ghost and speaking in other tongues. It is not that we have to exert works of religion, such as .confession of verses over and over to bring this about. It is not that we have to fabricate and even if we do have evil thoughts, say we do not have them. This verse goes far deeper than human control of the mind and the odd worldly and sinful thoughts that would creep in. We do have memories, naturally.
As a basis for our examination, let us remember that the Word of the Gospel says these things: Jude 1:3 “Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints” ESV; Heb 2:3,4 “How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by those who heard Him God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with different kinds of miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?” MKJV.
Perhaps we should all look at the history of events over the past one hundred and fifty years. These concern the baptism with the Holy Spirit and His gifts coming into the church again. Certain believers discovered from the Bible that the the Lord Jesus would still give the experience the one hundred and twenty disciples, including twelve apostles, had on the Day of Pentecost. Most writers date it back to 1906 at Azusa Street. However, some things we can ascertain are overlooked and I suggest that no one has the history during the whole of that period as to occurrences of like nature in the five continents of the world. It is reported to my knowledge and others could certainly have access to to other information. In 1860-61 many churches in the town of Tirunivelli in Tamil Nadu and surrounding districts experienced a revival of times of refreshing sent from the presence of Lord (Acts 3:20). This began with believers being filled with the Holy Ghost as they were in Acts 2:4. It continued throughout a few denominations and included manifestations of the gifts of the Holy Spirit that are listed in 1 Corinthians 12. Some time later, similar occurrences were reported from Travancore in what is now known as Kerala. This was in 1873-74. As far as I know there were no missionaries involved. In 1904 there was a missionary, Walker of Tinivelli, who preached about revival by the Holy Spirit.
In the words of a hymn millions have sung over the years. In those days there was no Kenyon, Hagin or Copeland with their many preacher followers and the unknowing new converts. Even older Christians have been taken in by the new. Here it is:
It is interesting that 1 Corinthians 13 is between 12 and 14 that deal with supernatural prayer and supernatural gifts of the Spirit in the church. Also those two chapters are about the four kinds of ministries in the church of Jesus Christ. You should read the three chapters. It is not enough to hear preachers. Each one has to read the Bible, the New Testament in particular. It has to be read over and over and over again. In the church of Jesus Christ we are to show love. If we help in the church, whatever we do, all has to be in love. Here are the first three verses in English :
A teaching (direct really from Kenyon if unknown by most) is that Jesus became actual sin. So in turn on believing, we become actual righteousness. In other words the nature of Satan (we were supposed to have) is removed. Instead, God places in the Divine nature in entirety as a nature. That is great error. Jesus is the pure and spotless lamb of God. Our sin never became part of His nature, whether human or Divine. It could not. Being Divine, He is sinless. As a human, He had a perfect and sinless nature. It was impossible for Him to sin. We see this in what the angel said to Mary: “And answering, the angel said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you, and for this reason that Holy One being born of you will be called Son of God” Luke 1:35. We in turn do not receive the Divine nature. This Divinity is without possibility of unholiness or unrighteousness. We while on earth in these bodies are never without the ability to sin. We have a carnal nature still, the old man. To receive the full Divine nature would make us God Himself. That is blasphemy. We do not know all things. We can never be everywhere. We do not have all power. We could never create the world.
Many are not preaching the gospel of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is another gospel. Those of us who were reared on the Bible, on evangelical truths, on Pentecostal bases and who have read hundreds of pieces of evangelical, theological, Mainline church and Pentecostal literature over the years know it is not the gospel that is wending its way into the hearts of millions. It is a mixture.
We have been watching Joseph Prince, of Singapore, fairly regularly, each Sunday evening. He comes across as pleasant, charismatic, engaging and having a good knowledge of the Bible. As we have listened to what he said, sometimes it took a while in the course of his sermon to pick up what the basis of his preaching really was. Perhaps that is because we too have been slightly brain-washed by modern day preaching that we hear when we return from India to Australia, particularly on all of the channels. They are Australian Christian Television, Trinity (TBN), God Channel, and others. Alarmingly, all of the Charismatic and Pentecostal preachers (except maybe a couple of black ones from the States) follow the same line.
